About Damai
A Practice Built Around Families, Not Cases
We exist to make family legal matters more navigable — handled with care, communicated clearly, and shaped around your family's particular needs.
Back to HomeOur Story
Damai was established in Kuala Lumpur by a group of family law practitioners who shared a common observation: that families navigating legal processes often felt overwhelmed by the pace and tone of formal proceedings. The word damai — meaning peace or calm in Malay — reflects the ethos they set out to build the practice around.
From the outset, the focus was deliberate. Rather than offering a broad range of legal services, Damai concentrated on three areas where considered guidance matters most: custody and guardianship, maintenance arrangements, and family mediation. Each of these requires not only legal knowledge but a particular kind of patience — an ability to slow down, listen carefully, and explain clearly.
Over the years, the practice has worked with families from many walks of life across Kuala Lumpur and the wider Klang Valley. What has remained constant is the approach: no pressure, no unnecessary urgency, and a genuine commitment to helping each family find a path that works for them.
Today, Damai operates from its office in Menara Landmark and continues to take on a measured number of clients each month — ensuring that every family receives the attention and time their situation deserves.

Client Confidentiality
Legal professional privilege applies to all client communications. No information is disclosed to third parties without explicit written consent from the client concerned.
Accredited Mediation
Our mediation services are conducted by practitioners accredited under the Mediation Act 2012, providing clients with recognised and legally structured resolution processes.

Client data is handled in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA). We collect only what is needed and retain records for no longer than required.
Regular Professional Development
All team members complete continuing professional development in line with Bar Council requirements, keeping current with changes in family law and court practice.
Transparent Cost Communication
Fees are discussed openly at the first appointment. Clients receive a written cost estimate before any work proceeds, with any changes communicated promptly.
Family Legal Expertise in Kuala Lumpur
Damai operates as a focused family legal practice in Kuala Lumpur, serving clients across Selangor and the wider Klang Valley. The practice's work spans the three areas where Malaysian families most often need considered legal support: arrangements following separation or divorce, financial provision for children and former spouses, and the structured resolution of disputes without recourse to contested litigation.
Malaysian family law draws from several legal systems — the civil law framework under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976, Syariah provisions administered separately, and the Child Act 2001 which governs matters of welfare and guardianship. Navigating these frameworks requires practitioners who are not only technically current but who understand the human context each family brings to proceedings.
Mediation has become an increasingly valued pathway in Malaysian family matters. The Mediation Act 2012 provides a recognised structure for reaching agreements outside the courtroom, and Damai's experience in facilitated discussions has helped many families arrive at outcomes that suit their particular circumstances — without the expense and difficulty of prolonged court proceedings.
The practice is located in Menara Landmark, Jalan Tun Razak — accessible by public transport and within the central business district. Consultations are available Monday to Saturday, with remote appointments by prior arrangement for clients who find attendance difficult.
